Captains update status from the wheelhouse — office stays quiet
Meridian operates eight harbour tugs between Genoa, Livorno and Civitavecchia. With three ports, eight vessels and a tight family-run office, the daily coordination overhead used to be brutal — port agents calling for updated ETAs, charterers asking if the boat was free for an afternoon job, captains radioing in to report a delay.
The breaking point was a typical Tuesday: twenty-seven inbound calls to the office before lunch, half of them just to confirm whether a tug was on station or already on its way out. Sofia would spend the morning relaying status updates instead of running the business.
Meridian's captains adopted the Vessel4you bridge in the first week. Each captain updates position, current job and next-available time directly from the wheelhouse — no app store, just the browser on a phone or the wheelhouse tablet. The office now reads the same dashboard charterers see, so the morning call volume dropped from twenty-seven to six. Sofia finally has her mornings back to do real ops planning.
"Our captains love the bridge — they update their status from the wheelhouse and stop bothering the office."
